Grammar tips-parts of speech
Parts of Speech
Article: words added before nouns. For example: the (specific), a, an (general)
Pronouns: words used to replace a noun. For example: S/he, I, me, they, you.
Nouns: name of person, animal, place, ideas or objects.
Proper nouns: name of a person or place. Starts in capital letters.
Common nouns: add (s) for plural. In somes cases replace (y) by (ies).
Preposition: words to show relationship between nouns or pronouns -time, location, in. For example: In, on, under, over, behind.
Verb: action words or state I, she, he, was.
For example: dance, eat, sleep.
Verb tense: add (ed) for past tense; (ing) for active participant.
Adjectives: describes a noun or pronouns. For example, tall, strong.
Adverb: describes verbs, an adjective or adverb. tells how, how often, when, where: Can add (ly) at the. For example: always, quick (ly); elegant, (ly).
Conjunction: words that connect ideas or relationships between parts of a sentence. For example: and, but, or.
Interjection: emotional expression words to add an exclamation mark. Wow!
